New Applicants

The Human Media Lab is growing and we are always looking for new MSc or PhD talent. We offer a forward looking research environment in which we study how new emerging technologies will impact future human interactions. In 2010, we will move into a new lab designed by world-renowned designer Karim Rashid.

About HML

The Human Media Lab is one of Canada's premier HCI laboratories. Its mandate is to develop disruptive technologies and new ways of working with computers that are viable 10 to 20 years from now. We are currently working on the design of Organic User Interfaces (Oui!), an exciting new paradigm that allows computers to have any shape or form.

The Human Media Lab is located in Kingston, Ontario named the smartest city in Canada in 2009. Our director is Prof. Roel Vertegaal, one of the world's experts on communication between humans and technology. His work on Attentive User Interfaces (AUI) was featured in media across the globe, from Good Morning America to Scientific American.

At HML, we have worked on paper computers, interactive blobjects, and interfaces that gracefully respond to your attention. Take a look at our project page for some examples. More details about past work is available on our publications page.  for more information about organic user interfaces visit http://www.organicui.org
