Microvision has released a pocket-sized laser projector called SHOW WX which always stays in focus, even when projecting on curved surfaces.

Beijing Olympic Ceremony Features Giant Paperwindows, Actuated and Spherical Displays

The opening ceremony, directed by one of my favorite movie directors Zhang Yimou, featured a giant version of Paperwindows, in the form of a gigantic projected paper-like scroll, with LED covered rods. Above, an image of a giant human-generated copy of the Lumen display by Ivan Poupyrev also featured at the ceremony. And to make this a three out of three of Olympic display technology predictions, our spherical display featuring Google Earth was there as well.

Human Media Lab scoops Microsoft Sphere project

Recently, Microsoft showed an early demo of their multitouch spherical display prototype. However, the Human Media Lab was there first! In the June 2008 Communications of the ACM, on Organic User Interfaces (OUI), we showed our work on our prototype fully spherical computer concept, pictured below. It was featured in a June CTV newsreel that you can find on this blog.
